𝑩𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝑯𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕: 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫

The Czechoslovakian Vlcak (CSV) comes in one coat pattern: wolf-grey/Agouti. However while genetically the pattern is all the same, 𝐚𝐰/𝐚𝐰, did you know that there is actually a wide variety of pigment intensities and presentations of this wolf-grey coat that is accepted within the breed?

The Czechoslovakian Vlcak breed standard states:

"In body shape, movement, coat texture and color of coat and mask it is similar to the wolf.

𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙧: Yellowish-gray to silver-gray with a characteristic light mask. Light hair also on the underside of the neck and the forechest. Dark gray color with light mask is permissible.

𝙁𝙖𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙨: Barely pronounced mask.

𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙦𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙁𝙖𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙨: Colors other than those in the standard."

The Carpathian wolf, of which the CSV is based off of, is a reddish toned wolf with black tips on its agouti coat, and as such the Czechoslovakian Vlcak can range from a rich red dog with dark pigment, to a light grey dog with very little red tones. A clean, defined mask is a major keystone of breed type, and generally gets better as the dog ages.

An important note is that while the fault colors liver, blue, isabella, white, and black exist in the German Shepherd Dog population, they did not exist in the dogs used in the development of the Czechoslovakian Vlcak and as such any occurrence there in is a sign of recent cross breeding.
