How does one find a good breeder?

The breed is relatively new in the states, so most people are still importing dogs to increase the breeding pool here. However, there are breeders within the states that you can reach out to in our breeder directory.

What if I want to import a dog?

Great! However, it is important to find a mentor to help navigate the ins and outs when doing this. There’s many puppy-mill breeders that will target people who don’t know better and will dump their dogs on these victims. Puppy-mills are high-volume dog breeding facilities that churn out puppies for profit. You and your mentor should go over pedigrees, find things you like in a dog.

It’s also best to meet the parents before deciding. A great way is to visit the specialties.

Once you’ve decided on the perfect litter, it is wise to either plan your trip to pick your puppy up or hire a nanny to help you unite with your new bundle of joy!

The Czechoslovakian Vlcak Society of America has you covered for some red flags to watch out for.

  • 🚩 Ships Worldwide

This almost comes off as a business sales pitch to let their buyers know they can ship their dogs anywhere around the world. Sadly people have to be considerate that the breed might be illegal in their area.

  • 🚩 Breeders who always have puppies available

There’s breeders within the breed that will have multiple puppies on the ground throughout the year. The breed only goes into heat once a year, so if you are seeing many puppies and multiple litters, this means they have many breeding bitches.

  • 🚩 Breeding dogs with no health testing

This can mean a couple things. Either the parents are not of correct breeding age or the breeder did not bother to do basic health testing.

  • 🚩 Liver and white colored dogs

Unfortunately there have been some breeders who are not breeding with integrity. CSV should not be liver or white colored since they do not carry the correct genes to produce this color. There has been outside blood introduced into the breed. However this is not to be mistaken for red or silver pigmented wolf gray. You should have a mentor to help avoid these dogs.
